Wow! It is so great to get the opportunity to report the final stages of work that are going on at Bonnet Springs Park. With just weeks left until the October 22 Grand Opening, the Rodda Construction team has all eyes on the Park. Final paving and striping are underway from George Jenkins Boulevard to the Event Center at the north end. The Crenshaw Canopy Walk, a spectacular experience in the canopy of the old oak tree forest along the Blanton Family Lagoon, is in final installation with handrails and seating underway.

Butterfly gardens are being installed, along with final plantings and landscaping, taking advantage of lots of sunshine and summer rains. Dredging of the lagoon, a several weeks-long process, is actively underway. This final step in the lagoon construction is a key component in establishing the wildlife corridor in the transitioning wetlands to Lake Bonnet.

On the building front, most of the buildings have received their temporary certificate of occupancy, signaling their substantial completion. Creative Arts, our exhibit designer is bringing the railroad and agricultural history of this land to life in the Watson Clinic History Gallery and in full production of the GiveWell Nature Center Gallery.

The nature gallery will allow students and visitors to better appreciate their environment through the story of algae, pollinators, plants, animals, birds, and all wildlife residents of the Park. Educational opportunities throughout the park are aimed to entertain while making us all better stewards of the environment.

The logistics to the finish line are making each day exciting as the talented team of designers and contractors work with the Bonnet Springs Park team to bring this jewel to you. Through the generosity and vision of our board this true miracle is closer each day to your opportunity to experience this amazing place. We look forward to seeing you in October.

Behind the scenes with CEO Josh Henderson

The dog days of summer are upon us. Very soon the dog days of BSP will be here as well. Our staff is very passionate about our four-legged friends and how they will enjoy the Park…after the grand opening weekend. Yes, our grand opening is going to be one for the ages, but due to anticipated crowds, we are asking everyone to leave their pets at home. After the crowds have dwindled a bit, we know Bonnet Springs Park will be an ideal place for a healthy dog walk. Here are a few tips to remember for you and your pup this summer.

1. Remember that asphalt and concrete get very very hot in the summer. Check the ground temps and please protect their paws.

2. Stay hydrated. Portable water bowls are a great idea for dogs, but we recommend Bonnet Springs Park’s reusable water bottles for humans.

3. Morning and evening walks are easier due to less heat.

4. Seek shade whenever possible.

We are counting down the days until we can welcome you and your furry friend to the Park. See you soon!
