September Park Update

Bonnet Springs Park rendering by Sasaki Design

Every single day is filled with excitement and learning at the park as the master plan document comes to life. Clearing activity in the wetlands area in preparation for digging the lagoon displays the magic that has been captured in that plan. The Sasaki team and the Advisory Board of the park demonstrated an important aspect of park design. They listened to the land.

Rough grading continues to form the hills and valleys in preparation for the building footprints. October should bring some welcome changes to the weather as we continue the site work. Although the extreme weather on site has alternated between very wet and very dry, the broad spectrum of talented workers on site are joyfully going about creating this legacy park.

If you travel along Memorial Blvd. or George Jenkins bridge, your passage of the park will reveal the forming and shaping of the rough grade. Approximately 150 eighteen-yard truckloads of clean dirt have been arriving daily during September and it now is stockpiled ready to cap the entire site.

Many people have stepped into the gap with their talents to help make the park materialize. Thank you for following along on the BSP journey, sharing our story, and becoming a part of it.

The Welcome Center

The Welcome Center is the flagship building for the park and the first of many beautifully designed spaces that visitors will first encounter upon arrival at Bonnet Springs Park. The Welcome Center will feature a full-service restaurant with a chef-driven menu, regionally relevant selections, and contemporary food options that create the opportunity for a one of a kind dining experience. The restaurant will serve lunch and dinner in an elegant and comfortable destination setting with views to the Heritage Gardens.

Welcome Center Exhibit

The second floor of the Welcome Center will feature an exhibit space and administrative offices. The exhibit space will highlight the culture and rich history of the railroad and Florida’s citrus legacy.
