The BSP Express is full STEAM ahead! Join us March 11-15 for Spring Break at the Park!

*This is NOT a “kid drop off” event. Children who wish to participate in Full STEAM Ahead should arrive with, and be accompanied by, their adult or caregiver throughout the duration of the event. All ages are welcome to enjoy the week’s festivities.

Join us Monday - Friday from 10AM - 2PM! With a different theme each day, there is something for every member of the family to enjoy. This fun filled event is FREE so mark your calendars and be ready to explore the incredible world of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math)!

The Full STEAM Ahead Trail will be located along the pathway between Mable the Mosaic Owl and the Ann and Ward Edwards Boathouse. Once you arrive at the Park, follow the Lakeland Regional Health Circulator to either Mable the Mosaic Owl or the GiveWell Community Foundation Nature Center, and your family will be able to see and hear the Full STEAM Ahead Trail from there!

Monday, March 11: Science

LOCATION	VENDOR	ACTIVITY
		MOSI cryo-scientisits will freeze, boil, condese, shrink, and crush objects before your very eyes! Using liquid nitrogen is the new super-cool way to learn about the states of matter!
		Learn about the importance of submarine buoyancy in a water column by visiting General Dynamics Electric Boat!
		Explore the fascinating world of crustaceans using K’NEX®️ Blended Kits to learn about where they live and what they eat!
		Learn more about the formation of clouds and tornadoes with visiting meteorologists from the National Weather Service!
		Join Stacey the Science Lady of Philanthrolab Science Shop to learn the science behind Optical Illusions with various visual pictures and make a thaumatrope, an optical illusion paper toy combining two images with movement!
		Introduce yourself to some of Florida's most common mammals through the exploration of animal artifacts including pelts, replica skulls, replica scat, and more!
		Step inside Dino-Dig's mobile fossil trailer to uncover fossils and learn more about prehistoric creatures!
		Explore the world of construction while interacting with Sunbelt Rental's equipment display that is ready and waiting for you to interact with!
		Explore the world of native Florida species through sensory bins in the calm, quiet setting of the GiveWell Community Foundation Nature Center Classroom!
		Learn more about blubber and how it keeps arctic animals warm in cooler temperatures!
		Join the City of Lakeland Water Utilities Division to conduct a stamping print of a variety of animal tracks!

Tuesday, March 12: Technology

		Come join Bricks for Kidz for a Mars Exploration. Guests can remote control a Lego Rover over a Martian landscape, vehicle learning about the technologies that help explore Mars.
		Come see one of the aircrafts provided by the Center for Aerospace Excellence!
		Come and learn the basics of flying by exploring a Sonex airplane and operating portable flight simulators.
		Join General Dynamics Electric Boat and their virtual welder to learn about the technology in the welding trade!
		Explore the world of construction while interacting with Sunbelt Rental's equipment display that is ready and waiting for you to interact with!
		Stop by this activity station to develop your computational thinking skills by playing with modular, robotic cubes known as Cubelets®️!
		Explore the forces of flight while working in teams to program a drone to perform a search and rescue in OSC's mobile drone cage!
		Learn about binary code as you create your own bracelet using binary code just like a computer!
		Find out what makes the world go around in an entertaining introduction to the basic concepts of forces!
		Explore magnets and their magic in the calm, quiet setting of the GiveWell Community Foundation Nature Center Classroom!
		Learn about the importance of keeping drains litter-free, so that our waterways do not become polluted with the City of Lakeland - Storm and Water!

Wednesday, March 13: Engineering

		Come make different paper airplane designs and test them on an obstacle course.
		Explore the world of construction while interacting with Sunbelt Rental's equipment display that is ready and waiting for you to interact with!
		Put your civil engineering skills to the test along with professional engineers to learn about surveying equipment and stake out a new project!
		Using the Engineering Design Process (ASK, IMAGINE, PLAN, CREATE, IMPROVE) this station will challenge guests to engineer a simple tool to rescue a mini figure!
		Learn about elasticity and friction when you join Sidewalk Science Center to build wind-up rubber band-powered cars.
		Engage your brain through fine motor skills and problem solving while you build towers using giant pool noodles!
		Let your imagination guide you as you build limitless designs with our Rigamajig cart!
		Guests will investigate the world of gears to learn what a gear train is, gear ratios, and what it means for a gear to be a driver, an idler, or a follower!
		Stop by our friends from Coca-Cola to sample drinks designed to keep your family hydrated all year!
		Step into the Brick Lab Trailer and create a Lego structure or even build a race car!
		Explore the world of engineering with Pete the Cat inspired sensory bins in the calm, quiet setting of the GiveWell Community Foundation Nature Center Classroom!
		Stop by the BSP Volunteer table to learn about volunteer opportunities including student, adult, and group volunteer experiences!

Thursday, March 14: Art

		Machines and art collide at this activity where guests will use machines to create art that requires mathematics and symmetry!
		Let nature be your guide as you create stunning leaf rubbings!
		Take a piece of FCM home with you as you create your very own model of Blinky The Alligator!
		Escape your daily life with the performers of Gainesville Circus Center to test your juggling skills!
		Learn about color theory and density when you create a color mixing bottle with BSP!
		Explore the fun world of music using Boomwackers as you perform for the Lakeland Symphony!
		Bring storybooks to life at this activity station by creating art to represent recognizable characters from beloved children's books!
		Add some color to your life with this interactive and mess-free tie-dye activity!
		Visit with Coca-Cola to learn how to turn sustainable projects into works of art!
		Create pictures using geometric magnetic tiles in the calm, quiet setting of the GiveWell Community Foundation Nature Center Classroom!
		Stop by the BSP Volunteer table to learn about volunteer opportunities including student, adult, and group volunteer experiences!
		Learn some new dance moves and show off your skills at this guided choreography zone!

Friday, March 15: Math

		Learn about repeating patterns and use problem solving to model and create complex train patterns!
		Put your counting skills to the test as your family plays on our mobile mini golf course!
		Use household items to explore the world of symmetry in nature from leaves, twigs, rocks, and even a special animal visitor!
		Blast off and learn about the vast distances across the solar system, the Milky Way Galaxy, and even the universe!
		Make your best guess at the mass of an object and then find out how close you were using balancing scales!
		Come utilize math to determine angles to launch a straw rocket through an obstacle.
		Create your own sundial with the Carol Jenkins Barnett Children's Resource Center to learn how to tell time using shadows!
		Use the power of touch to trace and practice a variety of math problems in the calm, quiet setting of the GiveWell Community Foundation Nature Center Classroom!
		Put your spatial awareness and geometry skills to the test as you build 3D tabletop tetris structures!
		Combine your love for jewelry and math as you learn about beading patterns at the interactive activity!
		Stop by the BSP Volunteer table to learn about volunteer opportunities including student, adult, and group volunteer experiences!

Join us Friday night for Movie On The Lawn, featuring a science-themed family throwback Honey, I Shrunk The Kids! Activities start at 6PM. Movie begins at 7:30PM.

When and where is the Full STEAM Ahead Spring Break event taking place at Bonnet Springs Park?

March 11-15, 2024 from 10AM-2PM each day

Located inside Bonnet Springs Park. The Full STEAM Ahead Trail will be located along the pathway between Mable the Mosaic Owl and the Ann and Ward Edwards Boathouse. Follow the Lakeland Regional Health Circulator to either Mable the Owl or the GiveWell Community Foundation Nature Center, and you will be able to see and hear the Full STEAM Ahead Trail from there!

BSP’s mobile vending carts will be selling snacks and beverages. Be sure to bring your credit/debit card, enabled tap to pay device, or visit one of our reverse ATM (“cash to card” machines) located at the Welcome Center or the Depot before making your way toward the event location.

You can also visit The Depot Cafe for lunch, located across from the Florida Children’s Museum, and The Coffee Shop at the Welcome Center during Park hours.
