The mission of Bonnet Springs Park is to enrich our community through nature, culture, recreation, and education. Our Park serves to unify the city’s diverse population, offering public spaces that serve the needs of many by providing engaging and diverse opportunities in education and recreation to residents and visitors.
Lakeland was built around its railyards, once the heart of Florida’s phosphate and agricultural industries. For nearly a century, the city’s largest railyard connected communities, cities, and states until its closure in the early 1980s. What remained was 168 acres of neglected land, a forgotten chapter in Lakeland’s history.
Remediation efforts began in 2019 to restore the land from the environmental impacts of past rail operations. Through the vision of community leaders and the expertise of world-renowned design firm Sasaki, this historic site transformed into a vibrant urban oasis.
Today, Bonnet Springs Park stands as a testament to renewal, offering natural beauty, innovative spaces, and endless opportunities to Escape. Engage. Explore.
